The surrounding atmospheric temperature in a given situation. Examples: 65–70°F in an office; 2000°F in a fire walk.
Generated by direct contact with a hot surface. Examples: picking up a burner block at 600°F; leaning against a furnace wall at 1000°F.
Generated by the sun or a fire source and absorbed by materials struck by the heat's rays (this is why it's cooler in the shade on a hot day).
Primary protective clothing — designed to be worn for work activities during which significant exposure to molten substance splash, radiant heat and flame is likely, such as charging, tapping and pouring in close proximity to molten substances and hot surfaces.
Secondary protective clothing — designed for continuous wear in designated locations where intermittent exposure to molten substance splash, radiant heat and flame is possible. It will not continue to burn after exposure to and removal of an ignition source; protection against metal splash and radiant heat is secondary in intent. Proper secondary protection should be worn with all aluminized clothing.
